Thailand Day 6: Lumphini Park

New Year's Day got off to a crawling start; we were still in bed at noon. We eventually figured we should probably get up at some point. At 12:30, I told Mike I'd be good to go with another 30 minutes of sleep. An hour later, I woke up to find him past out, so I set to work trying to find something we could do on the map.

Our roommate, Brian, had mentioned a snake farm earlier on, so when I came across it on the map, I figured it might be worth checking out. It happened to be close to Lumphini Park, so I added it to the day's plans.

With that out of the way, I decided to watch more of the football game on my phone until Mike woke up. (God bless you, Wi-Fi. What a magical time we live in.) The game proved to be a nail biter, but the Packers edged out the Bears by the score of 33-28. I was glad Mike eventually woke up as the game wound down, because holding in those screams and curses would've given me an aneurysm. When the final seconds ticked off the clock, Mike said, "Can we talk about football now?" I could breathe again.

I think we finally headed out the door at around 3:00. Unfortunately, when we got to the snake farm, we found out that they closed at 1:30, so we kept walking down the same street until we reached Lumphini Park.

It's no Central Park, but it's a damn nice place to spend a peaceful afternoon just relaxing in the sun. We only took a quick tour of the park before heading out, but it's definitely the type of place you'd want to visit with a group of friends to just pass the time away on a beautiful day.

Joggers were out in full force along the lanes that border the lake and the wide open grass area--I figured they weren't out celebrating the night before.

We quickly headed out in search of food, and it proved to be a rather difficult task, since most places didn't start serving food for another hour, and the places that did weren't up to Mike's standards. We finally settled on a place called Joe's, where I proceeded to stuff my face with chicken and spring rolls (we ate so many spring rolls that week!), and yet another deliciously cold Chang beer.

Another day of walking around, seeing stuff, doing stuff, and eating stuff. I love stuff.
